Prior to joining the office, I served 28 years of active and reserve duty in the U.S. Army. I commanded at the platoon, battery, company, and battalion level. My military obligations included back-to-back tours in support of Operation Sea Signal and Operation Uphold Democracy in Guantanamo, Cuba and Haiti respectively. I earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Humanitarian Service Medal with one bronze star. In addition, I also served two tours in Iraq and received the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Iraqi Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, the Combat Action Badge, the Valorous Unit Award and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters for my service in Iraq. I retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
